The CWA Dagger Award Winners – And The Future

Last night the Crime Writers’ Association announced the winners of several of its annual Dagger Awards:

International Dagger: Fred Vargas, THE CHALK CIRCLE MAN (Harvill Secker)

The Dagger in the Library: Colin Cotterill

Short Story Dagger: Sean Chercover, “One Serving of Bad Luck” (KILLER YEAR, MIRA)

Debut Dagger: Catherine O’Keefe, THE PATHOLOGIST

At the awards ceremony, the CWA also announced that they are teaming up with Cactus TV to celebrate the Crime Thriller Awards on October 21. Amanda Ross, MD of Cactus TV, said in the accompanying release: “We are delighted to have a

new three-year partnership with the CWA to ensure the future of the

Crime Thriller Daggers and to establish it as a major event in the

awards calendar. This is an extremely popular fiction genre and we will

ensure that its creators and performers get the recognition they richly

deserve.” CWA chair, Margaret Murphy, added: “We are delighted that the CWA Gold

Dagger, Ian Fleming Steel Dagger, and John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger

will benefit from this increased exposure and we look forward to

reaching a new audience for what is already publishing’s most popular

genre.”

What that means: more glitz, more glamor, and probably more makeup. And a host recognizable to UK television audiences…
