Karen Spengler Loses Her Battle with Cancer

Karen Spengler, proprietor of the independent bookstore I Love a Mystery in Mission, Kansas, died at her home in Kansas City on January 1 after a long battle with cancer. She was 56. Spengler was originally been diagnosed with the disease in 1996 and far outpaced original expectations, but in the end there was only so long to fight. Spengler, who founded ILAM back in 2000, is survived by her mother Jean Spengler; two goddaughters, Sarah and Kaitlyn West; as well as numerous friends and family. As per the obituary published in the Kansas City Star yesterday, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Turning Point
