RIP George MacDonald Fraser

The creator of Flashman as we know him best – because, of course, Flashman first appeared as the school bully in TOM BROWN’S SCHOOL DAYS, though articulated in great detail in Fraser’s many novels – is dead at the age of 82 after a lengthy battle with cancer. And I am stunned, because there will be no more Flashman novels. Guess I, and millions of others, will have to content ourselves with the many volumes already published.

John Sutherland pens a lovely tribute over at the Guardian Books Blog, and other obits come in from Bloomberg News, the Times, the New York Times, and Steve Bunche.
