The importance of being Ettlingered

So when Tayari Jones posted the results of her recent photo session with Marion Ettlinger, something about the photograph rang a bell, but I couldn’t figure out why.

Then I realized it’s the angle of her head, which is awfully similar to the photo that Laura Lippman used for years (one that’s about to be replaced on her next novel.)

Is it just me? Judge for yourselves:

It’s also worth checking out Ettlinger’s website and looking through the gallery of notable author photos dating back to 1983. Because that style of hers really hasn’t changed much – this is Richard Ford in 1983, while Lippman’s photo was taken in 2003 and Jones’ picture only a few weeks ago.
