Yet more on the deal front

First up, Kristen Weber makes her first official buy in her new job with NAL, and she brings over a familiar face from Mysterious Press:

LA Times bestselling author Patricia Smiley’s SMALL CHANGE, the next

Tucker Sinclair mystery, to Kristen Weber at NAL, in a two-book deal,

by Scott Miller at Trident Media Group (NA).

Next, I reported some time ago on Irish writer Tana French’s deal in the UK, and now she has a similar one in the US:

Tana French’s INTO THE WOODS, a psychological crime thriller, to Kendra

Harpster at Viking, in a six-figure deal, in a two-book deal, by Emma

White at the Darley Anderson.

Finally, this new noir thriller gets kind of a sparse writeup in PM:

Derek Nikitas’s PYRES, about a young girl who witnesses her father’s

murder during a carjacking which turns out not to be the random act of

violence it first seems, to Michael Homler at St. Martin’s, in a nice

deal, by Jeff Gerecke.

As it happens, Nikitas, a lecturer at SUNY-Brockport’s Delta College, has had stories published in EQMM and the Ontario Review. He’s a graduate of University of North Carolina-Wilmington’s MFA Program, whose site describes the book in more detail as “a literary noir thriller unfolds through the eyes of three women whose lives

crash together: a slain professor’s troubled teenage daughter, a police

detective confronting her own failure as a parent, and the pregnant lover

of a convict who hurtles them all through a violent, blazing nightmare.”
