Dame Rendell shows off her sense of humor

Bloomberg news’s Peter Elliot has a fairly typical Q&A with the author of so many crime novels (the latest being THIRTEEN STEPS DOWN and END IN TEARS, the new Wexford) but the last exchange kills:

Elliot: The demise of the novel has been forecast for a century. Is it dead?

Rendell: Of course it is. I’ve said that so many times myself. Still, people say no one reads, but you get on the train and you’ll find five people reading a novel.

Elliot: So we’re saved?

Rendell: No dear, not you. All five are women.

Ha! Er, I mean, ouch….
