Meet the new Nancy Drew

I suppose it’s only fitting I post this as I prepare to attend the NYPL’s “Nancy Drew Revisited” talk tonight with Melanie Rehak and Laura Lippman, but then it’s been All Nancy, All the Time of late:

Emma Roberts, niece of Hollywood superstar Julia Roberts and daughter of actor Eric Roberts, has signed to play teenage detective Nancy Drew in a new big-screen version of the popular youth-oriented fiction book series, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The trade adds that the new Warner Bros. film, entitled Nancy Drew: The Mystery in Hollywood Hills, tells what happens when the titular heroine goes along with her dad on a business trip to Los Angeles, and stumbles upon evidence about a long-unsolved crime involving the death of a movie star. Her resourcefulness and personal responsibility are put to the test when she finds herself in the middle of the fast-living, self-indulgent world of Hollywood. Andrew Fleming (Dick, The Craft) will direct.
Nancy Drew in Hollywood — oy. So what will Ned Nickerson be, part of some movie star’s entourage?
