In the department of superbest

This is the kind of news that makes me break my Friday hiatus:

Emily Maguire’s provocative TAMING THE BEAST, about a 14-year-old student’s passionate relationship with her English teacher and its consequences, to Jeanette Perez at Harper Perennial, at auction, by Sam Hiyate at The Rights Factory, on behalf of Serpent’s Tail.

Polish rights to Gruner + Jahr, and Scandinavian rights to Bazar (Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Finnish), by Martina Dervis and Malcolm Imrie at Imrie & Dervis, on behalf of Serpent’s Tail.

Auction? Bloody hell. That’s awesome.

For the select few who weren’t paying attention, I read the book last year, flipped out, got Emily to guestblog over here, and hoped TAMING THE BEAST would find a worldwide audience. And it sure seems to be doing so. I expect the book will be out next year as a trade paperback original, and will no doubt provoke a lot of thought. As it should.
