Original noir
Allan Guthrie’s fine zine returns with its sixth issue, and lord is it ever packed with good stuff. Charlie Stella offers a two-fer, interviewing Vicki Hendricks and Richard Marinick, while Jim Winter chats with Rob Kantner about his well-regarded Ben Perkins P.I. novels. On the essay side, we’ve got Jay Gertzman on David Goodis’s hardboiled Philly, Bryon Quertermous on noir influences in comic books, Jonathan Woods explaining how Robert Stone writes classically tinged noir, and Mel Cartagena gets all philosophical about Richard Stark and his main creation, Parker.
There’s tons more, of course, and it’s all worth checking out.
