One of those days

Maybe I’m still recovering from last night’s bizarre foray into the TV market research world, where I was forced to sit through perhaps the worst pilot ever produced, followed by one that wasn’t bad, but which had the whiff of datedness to it. Which leads me to wonder: are these “free previews” just a big scam that amounts to absolutely nothing? I mean, there’s no way what I and a couple of hundred freeloaders believe will actually influence the decision of a bunch of producers who already put these pilots to ground a few years ago, is there?

Then both my main email accounts went down just as a couple of things were due on deadline, and even though I managed to turn them in anyway, it seemed wise to call it a day.

So back tomorrow, but before I do, here’s a few random leavings:

Bob Tinsley has a thoughtful piece on where short stories with “something extra” — sex, violence, bad language — fit in the mystery market when EQMM and AHMM reign supreme.

Shalom Auslander brilliantly explains why maybe, just maybe, it’s a better idea to leave some things to the imagination. (link from Bookslut)

Nancy Drew gets a makeover of the graphic novel kind.

And finally, Jaime explains just how much Harvey comics suck. Oh, the horror. I can’t believe I read these damn comics as a kid, either. …
