Well someone had to get to this first

Even if it wasn’t me:

Lisa Rogak’s NO HAPPY ENDINGS: THE LIFE OF

SHEL SILVERSTEIN, a biography of the legendary children’s author, whose

life is described as “a fascinating experiment in non-conformity,

and a lifelong commitment to creative rebellion, anti-authoritarianism

and sensual exploration,” to Sean Desmond at Thomas Dunne Books, by

Scott Mendel at Mendel Media Group (NA).

Rogak’s a veteran writer of biographies and other non-fiction works, including books about Howard Dean, Dr. Robert Atkins, and the cemetaries of New England. She was first quoted about pursuing this biography in an October 2004 article by the Manchester (NH) Union Leader (no link), saying it would be “kind of fun” to write.

I’ve no doubt it will be, but considering Rogak’s usual output (four of her books were published last year) I wonder if this book (which, btw, is an unauthorized biography) will sacrifice depth for a quick turnaround time. Whatever the case, I shall be watching very closely to see what the final result will be.

UPDATE: There used to be a link, but it seems my lovely site has been eaten by the TOS monsters. Coincidence? Perhaps, but more likely an omen to get the hell off Tripod…
