A fine start for Don Winslow

Not only will Winslow’s first novel in years, THE POWER OF THE DOG, be published by Knopf in late April, but it looks like a movie of his first book starring slacker PI Neal Carey will finally be made:

Nick Stahl (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) will star in A Cool Breeze on the Underground, New Line Cinema’s adaptation of the Don Winslow novel, reports Variety.

Co-directors Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber (The Butterfly Effect)

adapted the screenplay, a mystery in which college student and private

investigator Neal Carey is sent to England to locate a senator’s

missing daughter.

Production on the film is expected to begin this spring for a 2006

release. The Carey character appeared in four subsequent Winslow novels.

Though I haven’t read the Carey novels, I thought THE DEATH AND LIFE OF BOBBY Z was an excellent book and I’ll certainly be reading more of Winslow’s work soon.
