I’m just linking this for the headline
I’m a bit late on this but Cabana Boy Duane Swierczynski, who was an unfortunate last-minute no-show at Bouchercon, is riding some serious momentum of late. His first book, SECRET DEAD MEN, will be out by the end of the year. His next book, SMELL THE ROSES, leads off a two-book deal with St. Martin’s for next fall. And he has a new day job as well, as the Philadelphia Business Journal reports:
City Paper hires beer-loving editor
Philadelphia City Paper, an alternative weekly, said Thursday it has hired a former editor at Men’s Health, Details and Philadelphia magazines to take over its top editorial position. Duane Swierczynski, who lives in Northeast Philadelphia, will take over as editor in chief on Nov. 1, the paper said.
“Duane has been an editor at regional and national magazines here and in New York, has written a number of books, and has taught journalism and political writing at the college level … all before reaching his mid-thirties,” City Paper Publisher Paul Curci said in a press release. “He loves Philly, and he’s been reading City Paper for over 10 years. We see him as a perfect fit; someone capable of coaching the best work out of our young, talented staff.”
Swierczynski is also author of six nonfiction books, including “The Big Book O’Beer: Everything You Wanted to Know About the Greatest Beverage on Earth” and “The Perfect Drink for Every Occasion,” both published by Quirk Books of Philadelphia.
Congrats, Duane–and hope you’re not deluged with pitches and ideas…
