Awards, awards, awards

Lots of awards were given out during Bouchercon, and though more commentary will likely appear here and elsewhere, for now, just the facts:

The Barry Awards were the first to be handed out during Thursday’s opening bash. Laura Lippman took Best Novel for EVERY SECRET THING. PJ Tracy won Best First for MONKEEWRENCH. Jason Starr got the Best PBO for TOUGH LUCK, Val McDermid took the Best British Novel prize for THE DISTANT ECHO, and Robert Barnard won for Best Short Story.

The Macavity Awards]1 immediately followed, with the prizes given to Peter Lovesey, Jacqueline Winspear, and Milwaukee twins Gary Warren Niebuhr and Sandy Balzo for Best Non-fiction and short story, respectively.

Friday saw the Shamus Awards handed out, with Best Novel going to Ken Bruen, Peter Spiegelman taking Best First, and Loren Estleman winning for Best Short Story.

The Hammett Award, given Saturday afternoon, <a href=”was won by Carol Goodman for THE SEDUCTION OF WATER.

Finally, the Anthony Awards took place during a two-hour banquet on Saturday night, with the respective prizes won by Laura Lippman, PJ Tracy, Gary Warren Niehbur, Rhys Bowen (for Historical and for Short Story), Robin Burcell (taking Best PBO for the second straight year), Mystery Scene (for Best Fan Publication) and in what may have been the oddest, most irrelevant pick, JK Rowling for Best YA novel.

And as always, congrats to the winners and the nominees.
