Pulp fiction lives

USA Today has a great feature on Hard Case Crime, the just-launched paperback imprint which is dedicated to reissuing lost pulp classic and uncovering new ones. The co-founders, Max Phillips and Charles Ardai, explain why they started this new imprint:

“Max and I both loved these paperback crime novels and no one was publishing them anymore,” Ardai says. “We were born to write for these lines that published pulp fiction in the old days.”

“If readers enjoy them as much as I expect, we’d love to do a bunch of them,” Ardai says. “It’s endless.”

Well so far, the imprint is off to a very good start. FADE TO BLONDE was a very solid 50s-style pulp novel, while LITTLE GIRL LOST was, to me, an excellent PI and noir novel given a very contemporary twist. And naturally we’re excited for next March’s offering by Allan “Sunshine” Guthrie, KISS HER GOODBYE. So if you’re in the mood for a fast read and want to stare at some gorgeous covers, these books are your best bet.
