The Anthony Awards

No, I don’t normally post on Saturdays, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t put up the newly-announced list of the 2004 Anthony Awards. The winners will be announced in an evening banquet on Saturday, October 9. Like many others have noted, this is a very strong overall list that is slightly skewed (but unsurprisingly so) towards Canadians. What I’m happiest should be most obvious after scrolling through the nominee list: the very first time (to my knowledge, anyway) an online magazine is recognized in the Best Short Story category for a story that solely appeared in that magazine. Let’s hope it’s a sign of things to come, because as I’ve said time and time again on the blog, some of the best writing is appearing online, and it’s time those writers–and the magazines that host them–get their due.
