The Crime Writers of Canada have announced the winners of the Arthur Ellis Awards, given to the best in Canadian crime fiction for 2003:

BEST NOVEL:

Giles Blunt, The Delicate Storm (Random House Canada)

BEST FIRST NOVEL:

Jan Rehner, Just Murder (Sumach)

BEST CRIME WRITING IN FRENCH:

Jean Lemieux, On finit toujours par payer (La Courte Echelle)

BEST SHORT STORY:

Gregory Ward, “Dead Wood” in Hard Boiled Love (Insomniac)

BEST NON-FICTION:

Julian Sher & William Marsden, The Road to Hell (Knopf Canada)

BEST JUVENILE:

Graham McNamee, Acceleration (Wendy Lamb Books, RHC)

Congratulations to all the winners! Especially good to see Giles Blunt take the main award, as his book was a favorite of mine from last year.
